Welders use accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses, including dissimilar metals such as copper to steel. Welders assure complete penetration and fusion of base and filler metals, control welding techniques to prevent distortion, and meet weld dimension, tolerance, strength, and other requirements in all welding positions.
Perform non-supervisory work of welding metals and alloysApply electric, gas, and other welding processes to manufacture, repair, modify, rebuild, and assemble metal parts, equipment, systems, and structuresDetermine appropriate welding techniques and select proper materials such as electrodes or rodsPlan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work ordersPerform difficult welds in hard to reach areas requiring close tolerance and strength requirementsEnsure welds meet specifications for fit, contour, and smoothnessInspect completed welds to ensure they are free from cracks, slag, or other defectsEnsure welds meet accepted trade standards and pass required inspections and testing methods
Education: NoneExperience: Experience performing welding using multiple gas and arc welding processes on various metals and alloysCertifications / Licenses: OSHA-10 certification is required. If you currently do not possess an OSHA-10, we will give you the opportunity to take the course prior to your employment.Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies: Knowledge of gas welding torch processes such as oxy-acetylene and other industrial gases; Knowledge of arc welding processes including gas metal-arc, gas tungsten-arc, gas carbon-arc, plasma-arc, and atomic hydrogen welding; Understanding of how various metals and alloys react to different welding processes and techniques; Ability to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead); Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications; Strong attention to detail and quality standards; Ability to meet strict tolerances and specifications; Ability to perform work in a variety of environments and conditionsPhysical Requirements: Ability to work in office and job site environmentsWork Environment: Office and construction job site
